Marta On The Move live podcast at Dreadnought wines with Mon Aimee Chocolat!

Just in time for the holidays!  I thought what better way to celebrate the season than pairing two of my favorite things, wine and chocolate!  Join me as I sit in this informative class that Palate Partners/Dreadnought Wines offers to the public.  We taste different wines paired with amazingly delicious chocolates from Amy at Mon Aimee Chocolat, and learn a ton of facts about the wine and chocolate industry and how they are so similar. From aging wines, to picking out the best chocolate for a friend, we touch on all subjects!  Check out Dreadnought Wines for anything you need this holiday season, and also visit Amy down at Mon Ami to grab her infamous mexican chocolate!!  I learned a ton of things at this class I would have never known.  Great for everyone who enjoys wine pairings!  I hope you all enjoyed the closing song sung by my very own Pittsburgh choir, Voces Solis!   Please come to our show Tuesday the 8th at at Phipps Concervatory, Dec 13th at St Paul's Cathedral, and Jan 3rd at the Carnegie Library in Carnegie, PA!  Care to make a donation to a nonprofit?  They would be a great choice, and hopefully one day your contribution will allowed us to sing all over the world (one can hope) it will at the very least allow us to keep creating beautiful music!  Join us!

Stay tuned in the beginning of the year where we kick off 2016 with DVE's Morning show's very own comedian Bill Crawford!

What am I going to say about this group that doesn't sum it up in the title. Besides the fact that they are die hard gamers, they are also the nicest and most fun people to hang out with.  I invited the administrators and creators of the group, Christopher Morgan, Brian Wissner "Wizz", Colt Dalmaso, and just for fun my great friend John Schalcosky to my house for this podcast, the guys showed up with a television and about 40 games from random systems.  I was in my heaven.  We had the best time hanging out, playing games, talking memories, and drinking beer.  I felt like a kid again, if just for an evening. The podcast only lasted about an hour, but we got to hang well into the evening after the mics turned off.  I cannot wait to have them on again soon.  Aside from our nerdy conversations about our favorite moments in retro gaming, we managed to include some really great material, and answer some questions that anyone who has any interest in playing, selling, or collecting games would want to know.  My eyes were opened even more into the world of retro games, and I don't plan on shutting them any time soon.  Please go check them out at Pittsburghretrogaming.com, follow them on TwitterFacebook, and Instagram

CONTEST ALERT!!!  They are so cool they are doing a raffle for this episode!  One lucky winner will get Gauntlet Legends (One of my favs) for Nintendo 64. Any time you Like Marta On The Move FB Page, Share or Retweet the episode, Like on Instagram and tag two friends, Subscribe Rate and Review on iTunes or Subscribe to my newsletter your name will be entered into a hat.  At the end of the week, I will draw one name.  So, potentially your name can be entered up to 6 times.  Good luck everyone!!!!   Stay tuned for updates for a  big event from PRRG in Jan and also fun collaborations with them on MOTM! Including our holiday partayyyyyyy.

Phil and I just returned from our vacation in Nassau, Bahamas!  Join us as we discuss our trip!  We tell you what you need to know before you go, where to stay, what activities to do, where to eat, and most of all what we liked and did not like about the trip. Phil will dazzle you with his opening history lesson about the Bahamas. :)  You will also get to hear all about our non caged shark dive (11ft sharks all around us!!!  I posted pics below), and if you know Marta On The Move well enough by now, you know I always manage to get myself into a calamity... My poor parents.

CALAMITY-

: a state of deep distress or misery caused by major misfortune or loss

ORIGIN-

Middle English calamytey, from Latin calamitat-, calamitas; perhaps akin to Latin clades destruction
First Known Use: 15th century

You listeners get to hear about me snorkeling into an oil spew, yes you heard it right.  We chat about the pains of trying to get thick black oil washed off of your body and hair for hours on end, and also me getting rubbed down with degreaser by a man with a gold tooth.  I can't make this stuff up. It is awful what is happening on that island, and to raise awareness, I went on KDKA News Radio 1020am this past Friday with Robert Mangino and Shelley Duffy to chat about it and make others aware.  I urge everyone to go to www.savethebay.com and sign the petition to stop the oil companies before they do more damage to marine wildlife.  I was in the water for 10 minutes and I was covered in oil.  I cannot imagine what the lasting effects have on our Earth.  I posted the KDKA link below as well.

Below are some links to the places and activities we participated in, places we liked the food, and some of our pictures from the trip! I really hope I figured out how to post a video on here, so people can experience what it is like to scuba dive!  Thank you Frank Snyder for the pictures and videos! A lot of these photos do not do the Bahamas justice. The water is truly gorgeous there, let's try and keep it that way!  Please share this post to get everyone involved!!! Check me out on the Epicast Network! #savethebay

Johnny Royal is a good friend of mine from college, and I wanted to reach out to him and Nero in Hollywood, California to see how his band Black Lodge is doing out there, and how the music scene compares to Pittsburgh. We had an awesome conversation about what inspired them to get into music, their new production studio (Which looks so boss), and what is in store next for their band.  Tune in and check them out at Black Lodge.

Nero Bellum: Synth/Bass
Raanen Bozzio: Drums
Johnny Royal: Guitars
Daniel Sahagun: Vocals

"Black Lodge is an electronic rock band from Los Angeles, CA consisting of Daniel Sahagún on vocals, Johnny Royal on guitar, Nero Bellum on bass/synth, and Raanen Bozzio, the son of legendary musician Terry Bozzio, on drums.

The band has been writing and recording their debut full-length album at The Realm Studios in Los Angeles with Lee Miles (Rise Against) producing, Johnny Royal and Daniel Sahagún co-producing, engineering and additional co-production by Matt Dougherty (Pop Evil), and Sean Beavan (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson) mixing.

Black Lodge's debut full-length album features 10 tracks, including "Thoughts", which was recently premiered with LA Weekly prior to their sold-out headlining show at The Viper Room in Hollywood and the acoustic track "XIII". The ballad co-written with Lee Miles and Jeordie White (Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson) serves as a tribute to their late bass player Ventura XIII (Ventura Sergio Bañuelos). On April 29th, 2014 during the writing sessions for this album, Ventura Bañuelos was killed in a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles, CA.

In October of 2013, Black Lodge released their debut EP, produced by Lee Miles and Jeordie White, with co-production by Sean Beavan, Johnny Royal, and Zach Webb, mixing by Sean Beavan, and mastering by Paul Logus. The Black Lodge self-titled debut EP was written and recorded at The Realm Studios in Los Angeles, CA."

"Tell us about it, Janet"

My siblings and I have done various shows at Stage 62, and I thought what a great way to round out the Halloween season with a feature on them doing one of my most favorite cult classics of ALL TIME.  It is the 40th anniversary of Rocky Horror, and it is just as good today as it was then.  I still love doing the time warp, and singing out loud at random times to the iconic songs.   OH ROCKY!!!!  Join me as I chat with director Stephen Santa, and two of the lead actors from the show, Nick Black/Brad, and Nathan Hough/Narrator.   They have a bunch of fun things in store for this show, and a different take on the setting, which is sure to be awesome!  Local performers will be presenting before the show, and they have midnight showings!!!   Show dates and information is on the flyer below or check out STAGE 62 for more details!

ALSO! Listeners can use code Eddie and receive $2 off of the show tickets!  We are also running a contest for this episode for 2 free tickets!  For each time you share and like Marta On The Move Podcast On Facebook, retweet and follow Marta On The Move on Twitter/Instagram, rate and review on iTunes, or subscribe to the Newsletter.   Each time you complete one of these, your name goes into a hat, and I will draw one winner for the tickets!  Good Luck Everybody!

Hopefully something we do once a year!   Check out Steel City Medium online and also John Schalcosky from The Odd, Fascinating, Mysterious History of Pittsburgh.  If you missed spooky stories of Pgh, go check it out, or tune into the very first podcast I did with him about Pittsburgh being first in flight on my page!

Welcome to the first ever Pajama Party Podcast!  What is it?  It is pretty much the same as Marta On The Move, only thing is, people are wearing Pj's (including the guests) and it is usually a live audience!  I started these in my home just for the fun of getting folks together to relax and take in an interactive show.  There won't be a ton of them,(probably once or twice a year) so eat it up while you can! We chat on this cast about the history of Pittsburgh, and why it is all well and good to remember the good history, it is just as important to remember the not so good.  You will LOVE this podcast.  John will be back on (because we had that great a time) for another PPP next year, if not sooner.  Stay tuned later in the month for Leslie Gray the Steel City Medium who joined us later in the evening to chat about all things Psychic.  It got very, very interesting!'

Check out John's website HERE!

House of the Dead in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville is a cult fans ultimate destination for all things zombie.  Owned by friends Chuck Cramer and Stu Neft (aka Disco Stu), this is the place to stop into if you are a zombie fan.  I love zombie movies (Return of the Living Dead being one of my favorites), so chatting with a local zombie book author and one of the owners of HOTD seemed the perfect lead up to Zombie Fest in Pittsburgh and Halloween!

Pittsburgh is one of, if not THE zombie capital of the world.  Starting with George Romero's Night of the Living Dead , it sparked other movies that lead to cult classics like Dawn of the Dead, which in my opinion lead to a more mainstream audience, ever hear of a little show called The Walking Dead?  Pittsburgh is the grounds that bred two of the men responsible for leading us up to where we are today.  Friend's Tom Savini and George Romero together shaped future movies to come. (Which you can all find in HOTD!) Join me on this episode as we talk about all things zombie, and delve into the inspiration for local author Geoff Camphire's book series- CHARLIE DEAD, and zombie book for young adults. Check out his works on his website!  Don't forget to swing by House of the Dead to pick up your favorite clothes, games, books, and everything else you can think of zombie related!

If you crave more gore and history.  Tune into the episode I recorded with special effect's master, Tom Savini

Don't forget Pittsburgh ZOMBIE FEST this year Oct 17th 12-8pm on the Andy Warhol Bridge.

Marta On The Move talks about Airbnb.

I have received a lot of questions about Airbnb.  Why I like it?  What are some of the best I have seen, and also how to book a room.  Phil and I are taking over our downstairs area, and thinking of trying our turn at renting it out through their website.  We have two friends in Pittsburgh who do just that, and we wanted to pick their brains about the trials and errors of owning your own Airbnb.  So if you are ever thinking of getting into renting your space while you are away, this will be a great episode to tune into.  We go over what the process is, what kinds of customers you may get, and how to deal with them. We also feature what we love about using it on our travels, some of the places we loved staying in, and how to look for the best deals!  Tune in!

So many thoughts, so much to do, not enough time, and so much stress.  We work hard and play hard every day, our brains never taking a break.  Stress one of the largest factors of deteriorating health.  The silent killer they call it, and I don't know about you, but that scares me to no end.  We all need a break in our chaotic world to be alone with our thoughts.  Many don't realize the outside sounds that we hear even when we think we are having a "quiet" moment.  It isn't until you truly take away all noise that you start listening to what is important.  I took this journey recently, and I wanted to share it.

I step into Levity in Squirrel Hill.  The owner David greets me and takes me on a tour of the place him and his wife Amanda created. I am instantly relaxed in the space.  Decorated by Studio Am, it gives a person the sense of calm with no clutter and no distractions. Honestly, I want my office to look exactly like it.  I sit with David, (who may be the nicest and down to earth man I may have ever met) and proceed to talk about what floating is, and why everyone should experience zero gravity.  I prepare myself for my very first float and step inside the beautiful rooms they put together.  Tune into the podcast to hear the before and after of Marta On The Move's experience with Sensory Deprivation "Floating".

My husband and I meet Jennie Benford Director of Programming at the Homewood Cemetery on a beautiful summer day.  We greet each other kindly, and proceed to walk the grounds of the cemetery.  Jennie Benford is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the history of the cemetery.  As we walk she can't wait to tell us about how it got it's name, it's layout, and the various architecture forms of the tombstones.  As my husband and I walked along with her, we learned so many glimpses of Pittsburgh's past.  Join us on our stroll to highlight pieces from each of three tours that the Homewood Cemetery Historical Tours offer.  Their Founders Day Celebration is this coming Saturday the 22nd.  Take a tour around the world and discover the rich history Pittsburgh's past residents.

I recently hosted a photo submission for this podcast.  I could not wait to feature the photographers from local people. I posted them below.  The winner of the private tour for you and 15 of your friends is-Joey Kennedy! Congrats! www.joeykennedyphotography.com

Thank you to all who mailed in their photos.  They are all so beautiful!

Marta On The Move chills with Aaron Ingley, and Julia Erickson, Ballet dancers and founders of Barre,- A Real Food Bar and Naomi Auth co-owner and brewer at Red Star Kombucha.

My husband Phil and I have, over the years, tried make everything in terms of food and drink ourselves.  Whether it be beer, wine, mead, food.  You name it, we have tried it.  We also have been trying to take the approach of cleaner eating.  Kombucha has live cultures that help as probiotics, and Barre Bars are the closest thing to what I make at home to boost energy. Unfortunately, we do not have all the time on our hands to make everything, so it is nice to know there are products locally that are just as good and clean as making them yourself.  I wanted to bring these two companies together to chat about what it is like opening a small business in Pittsburgh, and how they came about creating success from what they made in their kitchens.  This was a super fun, and engaging group, just four people doing there thing in Pittsburgh, and loving it.  Tune in to hear why you should check out their products, and how our city is awesome for small business owners.

Cheers!

SECRET VACATIONS- THE NEXT BIG THING

Secret Vacations: What they are, and why you should take one.

I have a confession to make, I am a planner.  Party planning, and traveling planning is always something I have been very good at achieving the greatest results.  It comes from my researching nature.  For me, the planning aspect is half of the fun, half of the journey to whatever experience you are seeking.   This, however has leaked out over the years, and resulted in myself being chosen as Maid of honor 4 times, Best Man once, the go to person for planning any party, or any trip.  Travel is a big, big thing for me, and the research portion of traveling is the best part of the trip in my eyes, but not everyone feels that way. There has never been a trip I could just show up and relax.  Tell me how much I owe you, and when to be there, that has never happened to me. When will someone take up the helm and let me play the passenger.

It just so happens, a very close friend of mine, is also an “A type” personality. She is always in charge of overseeing the details.  Over drinks one evening, we came up with a brilliant idea.  Why not plan a secret vacation for one another?  It seemed like most ideas that I have when I am drinking…..  AMAZING.  We poured over the logistics of how we would achieve such a thing.  Talked until the next bottle of wine was empty.  It was a night to remember, and the ideas still sounded plausible the next morning. so we dove in.  She took the first trip to plan, and we actually leave this week.  I am clueless as to where we are going or what we are doing.  For the first time in my life, I am just along for the ride…

A HUGE shout out and much love to my close friend who is planning this Secret Vacation for me. I love you so much, and I am on the next one 😉

1. Relationship building

2. Feeling Appreciated

5. Find your sense of adventure

How to start your own Secret Vacation questionnaire-

How many days are you willing be away?

How many hours are you willing to travel by car or plane?

What is your budget?

- Be sure to include transportation, room and board, rental fees, and any other major activities.

If you are the planner, be sure to include a packing list.

When I was young, the holidays always revolved around a certain outing, a trip to "Clayton".  Growing up in Pittsburgh, I feel a lot of people have that same experience. Touring the grounds and mansion surrounded by glittering lights and music to catch a piece of history.  Now that I am older, I started taking trips there more frequently than just the yearly snow covered journey.  Through traveling to other cities, I have gained a new appreciation for The Frick.

"Clayton" was the house built on a 5 acre plot for Henry Clay Frick and his family.  They resided there from 1882 to 1905.  They then moved to New York, but kept their home in Pittsburgh.  Phil and I recently visited their New York home, and even though the art collection is quite amazing, we found ourselves finding a new respect and love for "Clayton" in Pittsburgh.  The main reason, being is that it is private, and intimate, showing you a life almost stopped in time.  All their original belongings are present, not something that was placed in the space to fill a gape from that time period.  They were all personal to the Frick family, and being able to view their everyday objects in their house is something you will appreciate when you visit other historical homes that have reproductions, or borrowed antiques.  Also, I am not even touching on the car collection, which is indeed staggering. The main reason I wanted to feature them on my podcast is that The Frick Art and Historical Center is doing more than just maintaining the Frick's belongings, they are evolving with the times.  Offering more exhibits, education, and entertainment for their visitors. Their Fridays at the Frick has me so excited!  Tune in to hear the news about the history, and upcoming events happening at "The Frick".

John Schalcosky is a native of Pittsburgh, who had a curious nature about some things he had seen in our town and wanted to delve deeper into where they came from.  Almost a year later, he is now working hand in hand with Carnegie Museums, and various institutions around town, giving speeches, and is on his way to creating a book about the collections of histories he has found.  I wanted to bring him on as a regular (look for the Halloween podcast!), and hear some of the strange history that we have here in Pittsburgh.  I was blown away by some of the stories he tells on this podcast, and you will be too.  Truly one of my favorite episodes.  I can't wait to have him on again to hear what else he has dug up!

About a month ago, Jim Beam  and USBG partnered up and sponsored an event to allow bartenders, and folks in Pittsburgh be more aware of the history around them.  They rented a large bus and took us all on a tour of the Whiskey Rebellion.  I had never known the history of this area, and the role it played in stabilizing the economy, and making some of the best whiskey in the world.  Professor Buzzkill has a podcast of his own, and is part of our family up at Epicast TV.  He debunks myths about history, so I thought this would be the perfect episode for him to sit in and chat about the Whiskey Rebellion, and if there were any stories, or myths that may have shifted over the years.  Be sure to check out the Whiskey Rebellion Festival July 9-12 this year.  They have bands, food, fun, history, and of course.... whiskey.

Stay tuned for a video cast with Bobby "G" Gleason, Guiness Book of World Record holder for making 253 drinks in under 60 minutes!  He tells us more about how to make drinks at home, and the history of our area.

On May 29th Marta On The Move took over Arcade Comedy Theater for an amazing evening of laughter and conversation.  A packed house enjoyed beer served by T.R.A.S.H and cocktails presented by Mike Mills sponsored by Beam/ Suntory.  A night full of comedy from Arcade Comedy Improv and Comedian Aaron Kleiber lead the audience into fits of laughter. In-between sets, an intimate sit down podcast hosted by Marta On The Move got to know the performers.

A successful raffle finished off the evening with charitable donations from Harris Grill, Apis Winery, House of the Dead, Aldo's Foodservice, Steel City Wood Crafts, Arcade Comedy, Beam/Suntory, Peter Mondovi and many more. The funds raised from the raffle benefited the Homeless Children's Education Fund of Pittsburgh, PA.

Jason  is a very interesting and super talented photographer in Pittsburgh.  He shoots portraits, head shots, weddings, and is a freelance photographer for <a href="http://www.houzz.com/pro/jcsphotographs/jason-snyder">Houzz</a> magazine. I know he has all that under his belt, but the main form I wanted to chat with him about is his interest in Tintype Photography.  The moment we met him and heard that he did this form of photos, Phil and I wanted to get one done, and we are in love with the result.  Below, can find some photos below of his work. (along with our finished product)  You should really check him out if you have the chance.
